The Saudi authorities have made vaccination against polio compulsory for all OMRA pilgrims, with an official notification issued by the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA). This requirement applies to all Pakistani pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia for Omra.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has ordered OMRA operators, airline offices and pilgrims to ensure that they receive vaccination against polio at least four weeks before departure and take the vaccination certificate with them .
In a press release, the Saudi Embassy website said:
“ All travelers arriving from countries in polio outfit and restored the countries of transmission, namely Afghanistan, Chad, Nigeria and Pakistan, regardless of age and vaccination status, should receive 1 dose of oral polio vaccine (OPV). Proof of polio vaccination at least 6 weeks before departure is required so that visitors to the countries of transmission of polish-endemic and restored to request an entry visa for Saudi Arabia and travelers will also receive 1 Dose of OPV at border points on arrival in Saoudie Arabia. ‘
According to the ministry, vaccination should not be more than six months old at the time of departure, as non-compliance with this rule could lead to complications for pilgrims.
Saudi officials have also issued a warning that legal action could be taken against individuals or organizations that do not comply with these new regulations. This decision aims to protect public health and guarantee that OMRA pilgrims remain protected against any potential epidemic.
