Islamabad:
In a final case of poliovirus, a 33 -month -old boy was paralyzed in the Bannu district, increasing the number of Pakistan polio cases to 12 for the year.
According to the regional reference laboratory for the eradication of polio to NIH Islamabad, the recent case of the Shamsikhel Union Council, a banned district, is the sixth case of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa polio this year.
Up to 12 cases of poliovirus were reported in 2025, including six of KP, four from Sindh and one from Punjab and GB.
While polio eradication efforts are continuing, the southern KP districts remain areas of concern.
