Before Eidul Azha, the prices of perishable products continued to increase for the second week consecutive to Lahore, accompanied by a generalized overload.
Most seasonal vegetables, fruit and poultry items have increased significant price increases compared to the previous week.
Despite the lists of official tariffs published by the District Administration, the city’s sellers sold articles at arbitrary prices, largely uncontrolled.
The absence of a functional price control mechanism, as well as little interest from elected representatives, have led to an increasing public.
The price of live chicken increased by RS18 per kilogram this week, officially set between RS397 and RS411.
However, traders have avoided selling live poultry, offering chicken meat at Rs580 to RS760 per kg, and boneless meat at Rs900 to Rs1 050 well above the prices prescribed by the government.
The official price of Quality A -Skin A Potatoes has increased from RS5 per kg, fixed at RS45 to RS50, but they were sold on the markets for RS80 to Rs100. B-top potatoes B have been listed at RS37 to RS40 and C-Grade to RS32 to RS35, but mixed varieties were sold for RS50 to RS70 per kg.
Quality A onions fell from RS5, at the official price of RS30 to RS35 per kg, but were sold to RS80. The quality onions B and C, at the price of RS27 to RS30 and RS22 to Rs25 respectively, were mixed and sold at RS50 to RS60.
The tomatoes followed a similar trend, with a drop from RS5 to RS30 to RS35 per kg, but sold at RS80 to RS100. Grade B tomatoes were set at RS27 to RS30, and C-Grade to RS22 to RS25, while mixed varieties have passed for Rs50 to Rs60.
Among the fruits, different varieties of apples have won RS10, fixed at RS220 to RS365, but sold for RS250 to Rs800 per kg. The official Melon price stayed at Rs55 to Rs95, but was sold at Rs130 to Rs150.
Watermelon increased from RS5 to RS38 to RS40, but was sold at RS50 to RS80. Lokat won RS15 to RS138 to RS145 and was sold at Rs180 to RS250.
