President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for unity beyond divisions and personal interests for a prosperous Pakistan, while the country today celebrates its 78th day of independence.
President Zardari has passed on to the people, stressing the importance of national cohesion and the need for sustained efforts towards the well-being of the country.
He noted that success in Marka-E-Haq and the Bunyan-Uum-Marso Operation reflected the unshakable national will of the country and the unit of goal. This victory, he added, strengthened public confidence, restored faith in national institutions and raised Pakistan’s position on the world scene.
Zardari also expressed his solidarity with the Indian people illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating diplomatic, moral and political support from Pakistan until their right to self -determination is reached.
His message was largely carried by the state media and republished by Pakistani diplomatic missions abroad, stressing the meaning of the day for the diaspora.
Likewise, Prime Minister Shehbaz has extended “sincere congratulations” to the nation and led the flag’s household ceremony in Pakistan in Islamabad. In his official message of independence day, he underlined the unity and collective dedication to the development of Pakistan.

The parliamentary leaders joined the celebrations, with the president of the Senate, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, publishing a declaration through the Senate office on X, urging the nation to unite for a goal and to undertake to progress.
He said that the sacrifices of the ancients and the leaders will always remain a guiding light, adding that Pakistan is the fruition of the dream of Allama Iqbal and the direction of Quaid-Ezam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The protection and preservation of independence, he said, is the duty of all Pakistanis, and progress requires working above political affiliations.
