Washington: American president Donald Trump shared a photo of himself disguised as a pope on his social platform of truth after joking that he would like to be the next Catholic pontiff.
The president is seen in what seems to be a color image generated by AI, with his right index finger pointed at the sky, carrying papal insignia, including white dresses, a golden crucifix pendant and the miter hat.
He comes after Trump joked by telling journalists this week that he would like to be the next pope, just a few days before the cardinals started the conclave to elect the successor to Pope Francis Died on April 21.
Asked who he would like to succeed Pope Francis, Trump said: “I would like to be Pope, that would be my number one choice.”
Trump continued saying he had no preference but said that there was a cardinal in New York who was “very good”.
He seemed to refer to the New York archbishop, Timothy Dolan, a theological curator and fiercely opposed to abortion.
Trump attended Pope Francis funeral last week, his first foreign trip since his return to power.
About 20% of Americans declared themselves Catholics and exit polls said in November that they had voted about 60% in favor of Trump.
Pope Francis had undoubtedly been one of the most powerful moral voices of Trump’s critical world scene.
When Trump introduced himself to the presidency for the first time in 2016, Francis was without ensuring his signature promise to build a border wall to seal Mexico.
Francis told journalists: “anyone, whoever he is, who only wants to build walls and not bridges is not a Christian”.
The cardinals will meet on May 7 in a conclave in the Vatican Sistine Chapel to elect a new Pope.
