Prime Minister approves appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Defense Forces

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the summary of the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces. The summary was forwarded to the President’s House for formal approval.

Field Marshal Munir will assume the dual responsibility of Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces, marking a historic development in Pakistan’s military structure. This appointment is for a five-year term, making Marshal Munir the first-ever chief of the country’s defense forces.

In addition to this, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also approved a two-year extension in the tenure of Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu. This extension will take effect after his current five-year term ends in March 2026.
