Prime Minister Chehbaz lifts the ban on domestic gas connections

The director general of Suit Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Aamir Tufail, announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has raised the ban on national gas connections. He also declared that the objective of 300,000 connections this year will be achieved and that from next year, 600,000 national consumers will be connected to gas per year.

Approval has also been granted for liquefied natural gas connections (LNG).

Mr. Tufail said: “Liquefied oil gas cylinders (LPG) are 30 % more expensive than our LNG supply. He added that consumers will no longer need to buy gas cylinders because the gas will be supplied directly via domestic connections.

Opensions have been received from nearly 245,000 candidates. The priority will be given to those who have already paid, although consumers can submit urgent costs to speed up the process.

Previously, LNG was imported only to supply the electricity sector, which has now stopped buying it.

“Even if the LNG is actually expensive, it is not unaffordable if it is widely used,” said Mr. Tufail. The price of LNG has been set at 3,200 Rs per million of British thermal units (MMBTU).

To ensure effective management, follow -up cells have been set up at the head office and in the regional offices of the SNGPL. Tufail said the lifting of the ban and approval of LNG connections had been made for the convenience of the public.
