Although Prince Andrew has renounced using his title of Duke of York, he still retains it.
In a statement released Friday, he acknowledged that the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, Virginia Giuffre’s sexual abuse allegations and the recent Chinese spy scandal surrounding him were distracting attention from the royal family’s charities.
“I will therefore no longer use my title or the honors bestowed on me,” he said.
Today, broadcaster and historian Rafe Heydel-Mankoo pointed out that although Andrew has decided not to use his royal titles, only Parliament can strip him of his titles, including that of Duke of York.

He added: “…Only Parliament can strip Prince Andrew of his dukedom.”
“This has not been done since the Titles Deprivation Act 1917, which removed the peerage of individuals considered enemies of the United Kingdom during the Great War,” he added.
He continued: “Prince Andrew’s removal from his dukedom could be considered at a later date, if further scandals arise; However, the government and parliament should be convinced that it is worth devoting valuable parliamentary time to the adoption of such a law…”
