Prince Harry’s legal fight took an unexpected turn, giving the atmosphere of an April Fool’s joke.
Newly revealed messages show the Duke of Sussex in conversation with Charlotte Griffiths, the Mail Sunday journalist.
The exchanges include nicknames, kisses signed “mwah” and references to “movie hugs.”
It all started in 2011, after a weekend party with mutual friends, when Prince Harry messaged Griffiths on Facebook.
Griffiths called him “Mr. Mischief.” He called it “sugar”.
The posts also include jokes about excessive drinking and discussions about missing parties.
In one message, Harry said he wished he could have been there “especially now that you’re here.”
He joked about being stuck at a boring charity dinner, “asking them for money”, while wishing for more of the same chaos.
When Griffiths, who called him “H Bomb”, mentioned another gathering, he replied that he was stuck in the army, but would otherwise have been there “playing with you and drinking you under the table”.
The messages between them now appear to dovetail awkwardly with Harry’s earlier complaint to the court. that he only met her once and cut off all contact as soon as he realized she was a journalist.
These exchanges emerged as part of its high-profile legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited, publisher of the Daily Mail and Sunday Mail.
