Prince William and Princess Kate are planning big changes for the monarchy, as the palace has already started laying the groundwork for the new king and queen.
Neither the royal family nor the palace are suggesting that King Charles, despite his ongoing cancer treatment, intends to abdicate, but the monarch has handed more responsibilities to his heir.
Princess Anne had a strong reputation as one of the hardest-working members of the royal family and is “fiercely loyal to the monarchy.” And while she’s devoted to her brother Charles, she’s also one of the few who can defy him and “not be ignored,” according to royal expert Richard Kay.
It is therefore not surprising that she was not enthusiastic about the many changes that took place as William’s influence grew. She is upset that the royal family “has moved away from Queen Elizabeth’s approach”, particularly in light of the Epstein scandal.
The royal expert shared that as royals become more open in their statements, Anne “would prefer not to be an exception in this regard and does not like the way the family has moved away from Queen Elizabeth’s approach.”
He explained that Anne loves Kate very much but is “not entirely comfortable with the way Catherine and William have opened their hearts in times of personal difficulty.”
Anne is old school and strictly adheres to “stoic and noble traditions”, which is why this is a rather difficult transition for her. However, he still remains a key asset and is unlikely to change his ways even if the monarchy takes a new form under William’s reign.
