Prince William just dropped a powerful message about sport and mental health as he continues his trip to Brazil.
The official Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales shared photos of William’s visit to Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Maracanã stadium.
Alongside the carousel of photos and video clips, the caption with Prince William’s name included a special message.
It read: “Football is much more than a game”.
The message goes on to highlight: “The beautiful game can do beautiful things and community leaders are using the power of sport to create safe and inclusive spaces. »
“Here, young people can build their resilience, connect with others and access vital mental health support,” he continues.
Additionally, the statement on behalf of the Prince of Wales highlights that football helps break down barriers and end the stigma surrounding mental health.
“On and off the pitch, football breaks barriers and helps end the stigma around mental health, opening conversations that change lives. At its best, football connects us to something bigger than the game: each other,” he concludes.
The photos released featured Prince William alongside retired Brazilian professional footballer Cafu, known as one of the greatest of all time.
