A senior palace official has outlined Prince William’s vision for the monarchy when he becomes king following the Prince of Wales’ remarks about “change for good”.
Addressing the Online speed camerasthe royal insider believes the future king can’t stand the more theatrical side of royal traditions.
“William can’t stand the more theatrical side of the royal tradition. The feathers, the velvet, the heavy robes – he finds it all totally old-fashioned and a bit campy,” the source said, adding: “He will keep the dignity of the role, but he wants to eliminate the excess and make it feel less like a costume drama.”
Another close confidant said: “William’s vision is a monarchy fit for the modern age – less pomp, fewer outdated titles and a stronger emphasis on purpose. »
Prince William is “pragmatic” about it, his aide said, adding: “He knows that the monarchy can only last if it evolves and remains meaningful in people’s lives.”
The new claims came days after Prince William made strong remarks about bringing changes to the British monarchy when he becomes king.
William said he didn’t think much about becoming king, but acknowledged he planned to play the role differently.
The future king said: “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. A change for the good.
“That’s what excites me, the idea of being able to make changes. Not changes that are too drastic, but changes that I think need to happen.”
