It was not clear if cameras for television broadcast had recovered the audio from the presumed whistling noise. Rahm then minimized the tense exchange he had with the spectator, taking out his emotional reaction to the “bad timing” of the noise in question.

“I mean, if I had to paint a painting, you have the hardest t-shirt on the course, the rain, in the wind offshore, it’s enough,” Rahm told assembled media. “I know they don’t do it on purpose. It seemed like someone was trying to grasp someone for anything. It was a bad timing.”

Rahm admitted that he had “a bad swing”.

“I think I just used the moment to let out all tension that I had in me. Really that’s not – that’s what it is. To be honest, it probably didn’t affect as much as I made it look like. It was also a bad swing. Just a difficult hole.

“I mean, it’s frustrating, but that’s what it is. This is a daily thing in golf”, concluded Rahm.

The 30 -year -old has entered the last major tournament of the heels of a second place at the Liv Golf event in Spain. Rahm experienced his best open performance in 2023 when he finished tied for second place.

He won the US Open in 2021 and the Masters tournament in 2023.
