On May 9, 2023, legislators and supporters of the PTI organized violent demonstrations across the country in response to the arrest of the founder of the Imran Khan party. The demonstrations involved vandalism of military facilities and buildings belonging to the State, in particular the house of the body commander in Lahore.

The case includes charges against 53 accused people, including eminent PTI legislators such as Omar Ayub (National Assembly) and Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar (Punjab assembly).

However, two accused, Ayub and Ziaul Haq, initially sunk during their statements under article 342 of the CRPC. In addition, 50 other accused fled during the final arguments, which led to the separation of their case from that of the accused remaining after the publication of proclamations.

The ATC judge noted that attempts seemed to be made to delay the procedure by these abstracts, potentially indicating deliberate efforts to extend the decision of the case.
