Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Cyber Crime wing of the Federal Agency (FIA) have launched a national repression against individuals and companies involved in the illegal sale of pre-activated foreign SIM cards.

According to a press release published by the PTA, coordinated raids are part of continuous efforts to limit telecommunications fraud and protect national security.

The operations were carried out in several cities, including Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore and Siackot.

The authorities have targeted individuals and companies engaged in unauthorized sale and distribution of foreign SIM cards, which would have been used for fraudulent activities, unaccussional communications and other criminal operations.

During the raids, several suspects were arrested and a large number of illegally activated SIM cards were seized. PTA and FIA pointed out that the unauthorized sale of these SIMS represents a serious threat to public security because they facilitate communications that are found and anonymous.

Agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to monitor and prevent illegal trade in SIM cards, warning that strict action will continue against those who violated telecommunications regulations.
