Islamabad:
On Wednesday, the PTA blocked 16 Indian YouTube news channels, 31 YouTube video links and 32 websites to broadcast false information and anti-Pakistani propaganda.
The action was taken in the light of the dominant regional situation to protect national security and protect the digital ecosystem of Pakistan.
According to the PTA, the blocked content has proven to spread misleading and harmful accounts intended to manipulate the perception of the public and to undermine national unity.
This decision is part of the continuous efforts of the authority to combat disinformation and promote responsible use of digital platforms.
The PTA has reiterated its commitment to maintain a safe, secure and trustworthy Internet environment for telecommunications users in Pakistan.
The authority said it would continue to actively monitor the content online and take firm measures against any material that constitutes a threat to the national interests of the country.
It is relevant to note that the action of the PTA follows a recent decision of the Ministry of Information of India and broadcasting, which has exercised emergency powers under the Information Technologies Act to instruct the main social media platforms to PK Press Club-limited several Pakistani accounts.
