President of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, said the party was planning to boycott the parliament or launch a political movement after several senior leaders were convicted in the cases of May 9 Thursday, Express News reported.

Speaking at an emergency press conference alongside Asad Qaiser, Junaid Akbar Khan, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and others, Gohar described the day as sad for democracy. “Our mandate has been stolen, our chief imprisoned and the doors of justice closed us,” he said.

Gohar has said that PTI still believes in democratic and constitutional policy and not in confrontation. However, he hinted that the party could soon be forced to decide between the parliamentary boycott or the launch of a mass movement.

“The final decision will be made very soon by our leadership, and we will present this question before Imran Khan,” he said.

When two parts are in conflict, all eyes turn to the judiciary. We are only looking for justice, “he said, calling for reason and equity.

Gohar accused the authorities of targeting PTI by “incessant injustice and unequal treatment”. He said six MNA, three AMPs, a senator and the opposition leaders of the National Assembly and the Senate were sentenced.

He added that even leaders like the head of the Sunni Ittehad council, Hamid Raza and Zartaj Gul of PTI, had been distinguished. “We have done our best for democracy to work, to maintain the functioning of Parliament, but oppression and discrimination have not stopped,” he said.

Gohar reiterated that the PTI management had always supported the system and has refrained from launching street demonstrations. “Despite all our efforts, PTI is pushed to the wall,” he added.

He also criticized the judiciary for delays in the hearing petitions deposited since 2023, noting that “the trials are conducted before the courts until 2 am, but our affairs remain undecided”.

Turning his anger towards the electoral commission, Gohar said that he had survived his constitutional mandate and questioned the continuous disqualification of elected representatives of the PTI. “If Pti is ousted from the system, then the question arises – who is behind it?”

Earlier, ATC in Fairebad sentenced the best leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI) up to 10 years in prison in the events of the May 9 demonstrations.
