PTI delays the choices of the opposition leader

The PTI Political Committee has decided to postpone the appointment of new opposition leaders to the National Assembly and the Senate for the moment with a view to the stay of stay rendered by the High Court of Peshawar (PHC).

During a meeting held on Sunday to examine the current political situation, the political committee agreed that Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub will continue to hold their respective positions in the Senate and the National Assembly as opposition leaders.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Faisalabad on July 31 sentenced more than hundreds of PTI managers and workers, including Shibli and Omar in a case of May 9, 2023, sentenced them to ten years in prison.

The Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP), taking an opinion of condemnation Suo Motu, disqualified the leaders of the PTI on August 5. Later, on August 7, the president of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, issued a notification of Omar and declaring the vacant seat.

The Senate secretariat, on August 8, also published a notification, declaring that Faraz’s disqualification on August 5 had led to the loss of both its members of the Senate and his position as head of opposition to the upper chamber. The PTI challenged these notifications.

The PHC, August 12, prevented the higher and lower houses of the Parliament from appointing new opposition leaders given the conviction, troubleshooting and denotation of Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub.

A division bench including judge Syed Arshad Ali and judge Dr Khurshid Iqbal made this order while hearing petitions were deposited on behalf of Shibli and Omar by the president of PTI, lawyer Gohar Ali Khan. The PHC, August 21, extended the stay.

According to a statement published in the media after the meeting, the committee examined the current political situation and organized consultations on various issues.

For the next by-elections, Munazza Fatima was nominated by PP-87 and Ain Ahmad of NA-66, while candidates for the remaining seats will be announced soon. The meeting also noted that the realities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab field differ considerably.

He condemned the “fascist tactic” used against the leaders and workers of the PTI, qualifying the arrest of the sons of Aleema Khan as the worst example of political victimization.

On August 21, Punjab police arrested Aleema’s son Shahrez Khan. To use acts of vandalism on May 9, 2023. A day later, they also owned his second son, Shershah Khan for the same accusations. Shahrez and Shershah are both nephews of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

According to the press release, lawyer Ali Bukhari met Imran Khan at Adiala prison. During the meeting, the founder of the PTI stressed that the legal battle will take place with full force.
