PTI denied authorization to hold the rally of Lahore

Lahore:

After the intervention of the High Court of Lahore (LHC), the administration of the Lahore district finally informed the PTI Thursday evening that it could not hold a rally in Minar-E-Pakistan tomorrow February 8.

The PTI had announced the organization of a public rally on February 8 – the first anniversary of the last general elections that the party describes as very fake – last week in January. In this regard, the leader Alia Hamza had requested an official authorization from the deputy commissioner of Lahore (DC).

Alia then moved LHC given a delay in the district administration to decide the issue. An LHC bench including Judge Farooq Haider Thursday morning resumed his plea.

After a brief hearing, the court ordered the authorities to decide on Thursday at 5 p.m. PTI. The PTI legal team was present at the DC office until the end of the night, but later, an order was disseminated in the name of an intelligence committee in the district.

According to the circular, “the authorization to collect PTI on the specified date would not be possible”. This decision was mainly motivated by the fact that February is already saturated with a range of high -level events of national and international service.

These events include the triangular ODI series; the 1st joint regional conference of Asia and Southeast Asia 2025; The 9th Faiz Festival; Horse and livestock show 2025; The Male Champions Trophy of the ICC; The Literary Festival of Lahore and the Raiwind Tablighi Ijtima.

He said that these events require extensive security agreements and the deployment of law enforcement organizations. Consequently, on the recommendations of the District Intelligence Committee, Lahore DC Syed Musa Raza rejected the request of the PTI.

“To maintain the situation of the law and the order … The government of Punjab requisitioned the services of the Pakistani army and the Rangers to Lahore to conduct these important events in a peaceful manner following recent threat alerts” , he said.

According to the circular, the Grand Iqbal Park in which the Minar-E-Pakistan is located is a park at the forefront of the art park having a historical meaning.

“A political rally will destroy the park’s installations and plantations. [The] PTI past driving [during] different political rallies [is a testimony in this regard]. The PTI used to violate the conditions on such occasions and the participation of delinquents proclaimed on stage, “he added.
