ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI:
The PTI has written a letter to the Senate President, demanding the immediate formation of a parliamentary committee to look into what it called “solitary confinement” and “violations of fundamental rights” of party founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, as well as his wife Bushra Bibi, at Adiala Prison.
In its letter, the party said senators were constitutionally empowered to review the conditions of detention of any citizen, particularly a former prime minister and an elected member of the National Assembly. The PTI has proposed the names of senators Ali Zafar, Hamid Khan, Azam Swati and Mishal Azam for the parliamentary committee.
“All Senators wish to express grave concern over the illegal isolation and continued violation of the fundamental rights of President Imran Khan,” the letter said.
“The conditions in which he is detained raise serious constitutional, legal and humanitarian concerns,” the statement added. The party said it was distressed by “the isolation and treatment of Bushra Bibi”. “Subjecting a woman to mental and physical hardship is a violation of basic human rights.
