- Omar, Shibli Faraz calls the ECP “illegal” order.
- PTI leaders urge the Court to cancel the ECP prescription.
- Zartaj Gul obtains a protective deposit of PHC.
The main leaders of Pakistan Tehreek -e -insaf (PTI), including the opposition leaders of the Senate and Senate assembly – Senator Shibli Faraz and Omar Ayub Khan, respectively – moved the High Court of Peshawar (PHC) against the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) by disqualifying them in May 9.
PTI leaders, Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, filed petitions in PHC against the decision of the electoral watchdog that declared them ineligible to the public service.
In separate pleads, the senior PTI leaders argued that the PCE’s decision was illegal and pleaded with the court to cancel the decision.
This decision comes one day after the ECP denoted nine PTI legislators following their convictions in the affairs of May 9.
Those disqualified include five members of the National Assembly, a senator and three members of the Punjab Assembly.
The list includes Omar Ayub (MNA of Na-18 Haripur), Rai Hassan Nawaz (MNA of NA-143 Sahiwal-III), Zartaj Gul (MNA of NA-185 DG Khan-II), Rai Hader Ali (MNA of NA-185 DG Khan Faisalabad-X) of the lower room of Parliament.
The members of the Assembly of Punjab Muhammad Ansar Iqbal (MPa of PP-73 Sargodha-III) Junaid Afzal (MPa of PP-98 Faithbad-I), and Rai Muhammad Murtaza Iqbal (MPa of PP-203 Saiwal-Vi) were also denobled.
Disqualification occurred a few days after a special special anti -terrorist (ATC) of Faisalabad sentenced several PTI leaders to 10 years in prison each within the framework of the cases registered as a result of May 9, 2023.
In its verdict, the Special ATC condemned 108 individuals from the total of 185 accused and acquitted 77 others, including former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, Zain Qureshi and Khayal Kastro.
Meanwhile, the High Court of Peshawar (PHC) granted a protection guarantee to the PTI chief, Zartaj Gul, in the case on May 9 following his conviction by an anti -terrorist courtyard of Faisalabad.
In her petition, Gul argued that she intended to appeal to the High Court of Lahore (LHC) and requests a protection deposit to ensure that she can do so without fear of immediate arrest.
Subsequently, the court, after hearing arguments, granted a protection guarantee to the former minister.
‘Gohar strikes ECP’
Addressing journalists today, the president of the PTI, the lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, firmly criticized the ECP and defended the recent demonstrations nationwide, affirming that public support remains firmly at the origin of the founding leader of the Imran Khan Party.
Gohar criticized the ECP’s decision, saying that the electoral watchdog does not have the legal power to issue direct disqualification notifications.
“This is the first electoral commission operating under a court suspension order,” said Gohar.
Taking the disqualifications of the ECP as “illegal”, Barrister Gohar said that PTI would dispute the decision of the electoral commission to all legal forums.
While speaking of the PTI demonstration on August 5, Gohar said that the demonstrations had taken place in 170 districts, Tehsils and Union councils across the country, and people showed their love for Imran Khan.
