Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Tehreek Tahaffuz Ain Pakistan (TTAP) on Thursday said they would not compromise on the health of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan and urged the nation to join a nationwide shutdown strike scheduled for February 8 (Sunday).

At a meeting of the joint parliamentary committee at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, opposition leaders expressed concern over the law and order situation in Balochistan and showed solidarity with the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country.

The meeting was attended by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, TTAP chief Mahmood Achakzai, PTI general secretary Salman Akram Raja and PTI stalwarts Asad Qaiser and Taimoor Saleem Jhagra, among others, according to a media report.

Addressing the participants, Qaiser said the meeting was called due to Imran’s health condition. “Don’t push us against the wall, otherwise all options are open,” he said. Speaking about Sunday’s protest, he added: “Today we are committed to making the protest a success.”

He further said that the PTI would meet the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on Friday (today). Qaiser said the meeting expressed concerns over the PTI founder’s health and demanded that his visitation rights be restored.

The participants demanded measures to ensure the welfare of the people of Tirah Valley, KP. They also condemned the arrest of party leaders and workers in Sindh and announced that rallies would be held on February 8.
