Punjab extends the free Wi-Fi service with improved speeds

The chief minister’s free Wi-Fi service has been extended to more areas through Punjab, including Lahore. The number of free Wi-Fi hot spots in Lahore has increased from 200 to 230, and the service has now been upgraded to the latest Wi-Fi 6 technology.

According to a spokesperson, the transition to Wi-Fi 6 technology will provide users with a faster and more stable internet service. Safe Cities Authority offers free Wi-Fi in 300 locations in 11 districts in Punjab.

This service is currently active in Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Siallekot, Gujrat, Jhelum and Attock, with residents of Sahiwal, Okara and Mrier also benefiting from service in key places. The spokesman for cities Safe has confirmed that the free Wi-Fi service will soon be extended throughout the province.

To date, more than 17.7 million users have accessed the service, with a total of 438 data of data used. The residents expressed their satisfaction, noting that the service facilitated their daily activities.

The spokesperson also said that the free Wi-Fi service is intended for emergency use and will not be available for video or entertainment streaming purposes. Following the orders of the Minister -in Punjab, efforts are underway to transform the province into a digital center.

Earlier, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz revealed ambitious plans to modernize public schools in the province with smart classrooms and digital laboratories, marking a step towards the integration of modern technology in traditional education.

Speaking during the digital learning day, the chief minister Maryam stressed that in today’s world, technological progress and education go hand in hand.

“Development is now linked to technology, and young people from Punjab must be equipped with the skills necessary to meet the demands of the modern world,” she said.

The chief minister underlined the government’s efforts to create opportunities for students to align themselves with international market demands, in particular by the introduction of advanced IT training programs.

As part of these efforts, Punjab offers students access to international IT lessons, including artificial intelligence (AI), software development and freelancers.
