The Punjab government has decided to transition the 43 prisons from the province to solar energy, a decision that should reduce electricity and gas bills up to 60%.
The plan, which aims to resolve the increase in public services costs, was presented by the Punjab attachment service and awaits the final approval of chief Maryam Nawaz, Express News reported.
An initial survey by the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) estimated that the annual energy costs of the 43 Punjab prisons have reached a 4.5 billion rupee internship.
However, the total cost of transitioning these prisons to solar energy should be lower than annual public service bills, which makes investment a profitable long -term solution.
According to NRTC, the transition to solar energy for the 43 prisons will require an investment of around 4.35 billion rupees.
The gradual implementation of the green energy solution will result in a 60% reduction in electricity costs, providing long -term financial relief.
The investment should be recovered within three years, after which prisons will become self -sufficient in energy, reducing the financial burden of the provincial treasury.
A spokesperson for the Punjab House department said that the decision to switch to green energy had been taken in response to a record increase in electricity and gas bills in recent years.
The transition proposal for all solar energy prisons was subject to the provincial office, with a recommendation to allocate 2 billion rupees in the current financial year to launch the project.
