Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin called for direct peace talks with Ukraine to be held in Istanbul on May 15.
He said that talks should focus on the end of the war and the reasons for the reasons why he started.
The Russian chief sent troops to Ukraine in February 2022, starting the most serious shock between Russia and the West since the Cuban missile crisis in 1962.
He said Russia proposed direct talks to Ukraine in Istanbul in an attempt “to eliminate the profound causes of the conflict” and to “carry out the restoration of long -term lasting peace”.
Putin accused Ukraine of moving away from talks in 2022, but said that Moscow was now ready to resume discussions without any condition.
“It was not Russia that interrupted negotiations in 2022. It was Kyiv. Nevertheless, we propose that kyiv resumes direct negotiations without any prerequisite, “said Putin, referring to missed talks after the Russian invasion of 2022.
“We offer kyiv authorities to resume negotiations already on Thursday in Istanbul,” said Putin.
“Our proposal, as we say, is on the table. The decision now depends on the Ukrainian authorities and their conservatives, who are guided, it seems, by their personal political ambitions, and not by the interests of their peoples.
The major European powers threw their weight behind an unconditional Ukraine ceasefire of 30 days on Saturday, with the support of US President Donald Trump, and threatened Putin new sanctions “ Massive ” if he did not accept in a few days.
Trump, who says he wants to be recalled as a peacemaker, said on several occasions that he wanted to put an end to the “bloodbath” of the Ukraine war, which his administration throws as a war by proxy between the United States and Russia.
Former American president Joe Biden, the leaders of Western Europe, and Ukraine have thrown the invasion as an imperial style taking and have repeatedly promised to overcome the Russian forces.
Putin launched war as a moment of the watershed in Moscow’s relations with the West, which, according to him, humiliated Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 by widening NATO and encroaching on what it considers the sphere of influence of Moscow, including Ukraine.
