- Putin wants Western software “strangled” in Russia
- Microsoft and Zoom are still widely used by Russian companies
- Domestic alternatives exist, but are not adopted as quickly as Putin wishes
American technological companies, including Microsoft and Zoom, should be “foreign” and “strangled” of the operation in Russia, said President Vladimir Putin.
Declarations, reported by PK Press Clubwould have been filed in response to the complaints of Russian business leaders that American companies who had previously announced their release from the Russian markets in response to the invasion of Ukraine continues to operate in the country.
Microsoft announced the suspension of new sales of its software on the Russian market in 2022, but many Russian companies still use Western products and software, probably due to the lack of national alternatives.
Putin wants national office software
The sanctions put in place by Western countries following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022 led to widespread calls for local products and products to the country, ranging from plane parts to office software.
Many companies that have withdrawn from Russia have left their locations and their assets in place, such as McDonalds, which has been replaced by a new company called “Vkusno I Tochka”, which quickly introduced conventional menu analogues such as the “ Big Hit ” (an alternative infiltrated non-Copyright to the Big Mac).
Now it seems that Putin wants to distance Russia from the West more by pushing Russian companies to start using or producing software that could replace the solutions offered by Microsoft and Zoom.
The alternatives to Western software already exists, the Kaspersky laboratory becoming a majority shareholder in the мойофи (myoffice) software to improve the collaboration between the Office suite and the own Kasperskyos Secure Kasperskyos operating system.
The products and performance of national alternatives on the range of operating systems based on Linux in Russia remains to be seen.
