- Ransomware attacks quadrupled in 2024, said Barracuda report
- The increase was made possible by the increase in Raas suppliers
- Attacks have also become faster, said a report
Ransomware attacks have increased four times in the space of a year, probably driven by ransomware offers as a service (RAAS), new research said.
A new in -depth analysis published by cybersecurity researchers from the managed XDR managed by Barracuda has analyzed 11 billions of IT events recorded to identify potential risks. A million indeed were malicious, and of these – 16,812 were confirmed attacks which required immediate defensive action.
While most of the types of attacks (ddos, malware, phishing, etc.) were largely stable compared to previous years and spread relatively uniformly over the months, ransomware stands out. According to the results, the number of these attacks has increased quadrupled compared to 2024. Although they cannot be absolutely some, the researchers think that the rise is pulled by the prevalence of ransomware offers as a service.
Accelerate
“Developers behind Raas platforms often have time, resources and skills to invest massively in advanced and evasive sets and models,” he said in the report. “The Operational Raas model also extends the attackers’ basin deployment of ransomware, putting it within the reach of any person wishing to rent and take advantage of the kits.”
Another notable observation is that cyber attacks become faster. Barracuda researchers have said that progress in safety tools and strategies allow security professionals to detect attacks more easily and delete them more quickly from the network. In response, the attackers also accelerated their attacks, also increasing the risks.
All this means that it has never been so important for organizations to implement effective and complete security, concludes Barracuda.
This includes robust multi-factor authentication, different access controls and a “solid approach” of the management of fixes and data protection. To complete everything, companies should regularly train their employees to aware of cybersecurity.
“The attackers will exploit all the security lakes they find to continue their attacks,” concludes Barracuda. Companies must respond with a “complete XDR solution” which incorporates the security of the network, the termination point, the server, the cloud and the email.
