The music world is in shock after the sudden death of rapper Luci4, 23, but his family are now calling for a further investigation after finding “suspicious” injuries on his body.
James Dears, who gained huge success with his experimental sigilkore sound and viral success Body partwas found unconscious in his bedroom in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 22.
While the news devastated his fans, his grandparents, with whom he lived in the Watts neighborhood, believe there is more to the story than just an accident.
His grandmother, Brenda Dears, made the tragic discovery and did her best to save him with CPR, but she realized he was already cold.
It was the rapper’s grandfather, also named James Dears, who was the first to learn of his grandson’s physical condition.
He noted that the young artist had visible bruising suggesting he may have been involved in a struggle before his death.
Describing the heartbreaking scene, his grandfather said: “He didn’t look well. He had a black eye and his lip was swollen,” according to several media outlets.
The Los Angeles Police Department is currently investigating the death, and while initial theories in these situations can often lean toward a medical episode, the family’s allegations of foul play have prompted a closer look.
The grandparents struggled to make sense of the loss, especially since they felt he was in a good position.
His grandfather shared his grief, saying: “My grandson was a good boy. He was just starting to get his life together. We think something happened to him.”
A prominent figure in the underground rap scene, Luci4 was known for his unique style and tracks like Kurxxed Emeraldz.
Tributes are pouring in from around the world, but for his family, the priority remains finding out exactly what happened that Sunday evening.
Authorities are now awaiting autopsy results to determine the official cause of death, while continuing to review the family’s concerns.
