Rawalpindi:
Before the monsoon season, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) completed the drawing of Nullah Leh, a key flood channel in Rawalpindi.
The project, launched on May 8 with heavy machines and workforce, concluded recently and cost 80 million rupees, funded by the Punjab government.
The effort aims to guarantee that the major water flow during the monsoon can go through Nullah Leh to the Soan River without causing urban floods. Seven machines will remain parked along the canal banks until September as a precaution.
The 8 -kilometer long channel and 15 drains of sewers adjacent to Rawalpindi were rid of the silt, with efforts focused on the increase in depth, eliminating blockages near bridges and sands, and guaranteeing an uninterrupted water flow.
The project underwent two third -party inspections – by the Housing Secretary and the Commissioner’s team with a third inspection provided for by the Federal Flood Commission.
Wasa has also inspected all its machines related to the monsoon and launched a simultaneous cleaning operation for 15 drains in the city, which should be completed by June 30. In addition, he works to clean and cover all the open men’s holes, with a six -hour response time for complaint resolution.
The preparations for the monsoon also include the creation of a control room at the ASA headquarters and five emergency camps across the city.
