Reba McEntire fought back tears as she remembered her stepson Brandon Blackstock on The Voice.
For those who don’t know, Brandon, a talent manager, succumbed to melanoma at the age of 48 on August 7, 2025. He was the son of Narvel Blackstock, Reba’s ex-husband.
Brandon left behind his four children, Savannah and Seth, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Melissa Ashworth and River and Remy with Kelly Clarkson before divorcing in 2022.
On the Monday, October 27 episode of the NBC singing competition show The voice season 28, the 70-year-old American singer and actress became emotional when a contestant on her team, Aubrey Nicole, sang beautifully I’m going to love you through this, a song by Martina McBride.
Notably, the song tells the story of a couple coping with life after a cancer diagnosis and Aubrey dedicated the song to her father, who had previously been diagnosed with the illness but is now in remission.
Commenting on her performance, coach Snoop Dogg joked that he wasn’t aware of the song but his eyes filled with tears, to which Reba said, “I know that song. Martina’s – I’ll need it, thanks, Snoop”, as Snoop gave her a tissue to wipe her eyes.
“Martina is a good friend of mine. I lost my oldest son because he didn’t beat cancer. It was a real reminder that life goes on, and we sing songs about that to remember those around us who we love so much, who we lean on in times like this. You did a great job,” said the The place of happiness » added the star, referring to Brandon.
