The police arrested the president of the district of Sindh Taraqi Pasand (STP), Syed Jalal Shah, in a case linked to an attack against the convoy of the Minister of State for Religious Affairs Kheel Das Kohistani.
The case was deposited after the demonstrators trampled stones on the minister’s vehicle in Thitta one day earlier.
The FIR also appointed several other STP activists, including Haider Shoro, Hakeem Broi and Javed Janori, as part of the incident.
The convoy came across a demonstration held by nationalist groups protesting against the disputed channels. As the Minister’s convoy approaches, the demonstrators became agitated, throwing eggs and tomatoes on the vehicle and singing slogans.
However, the convoy managed to pass without any other escalation.
The demonstration was part of a broader campaign by nationalist groups between the diversion of water and the developments of infrastructure which claim to threaten local agriculture and move communities.
Human rights activists and local political groups have expressed their concern about the use of the force reported during the arrest of Shah, calling for an impartial investigation both on attack and subsequent police actions.
“The attacks on civil servants are unacceptable,” said Tarar, urging the Sindh government to conduct an in -depth and transparent investigation and translated the leaders into justice.
Meanwhile, the Sindh -Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also took note of the attack and issued a strong conviction.
In a press release, he said, “No one has the right to take over.” He asked Hyderabad Dig to immediately stop the people involved and to submit a full report on the incident.
