Reference filed to cancel the law license from Imaan Mazari

An official reference was submitted to the Islamabad bar council requesting the cancellation of the lawyer for lawyer Imaan Mazari to practice law. Development is the result of a growing legal and professional dispute involving the chief judge of the High Court of Islamabad (IHC).

According to Express News on Tuesday, the reference was filed by lawyer Adnan Iqbal, who alleged that Mazari is involved in activities considered to be against the State. “The petitioner asked the Council to revoke his license permanently and launch an official investigation.

This evolution comes in the wake of the climbing of tensions between Mazari and the chief judge Sarfaraz Dogar. Last week, a verbal exchange took place during a hearing on a petition requesting the dismissal of the Baloch Yakjehti committee, Mahrang Baloch, the exit control list (ECL), a case in which Mazari appeared as a council.

During the hearing, CJ Dogar reprimanded Mazari, declaring: “You should keep your mouth closed and stay within the limits of respect,” replied the remarks of Mazari, “he said, outside the legal scope. He also described her that he called him a “dictator” and refused to issue a directive in this area.

After the incident, Mazari posted on X: “I was there in the name of my client, not as an Imaan Mazari activist”, adding that she had led “according to the professional label (and a court should do the same)”.

She filed an official complaint with the investigation committee on the harassment of IHC women, chaired by judge Saman Rafat Imtiaz, under the protection against the harassment of women to the Act on the Place of Work. In the complaint, she asked for an investigation on the question of whether the chief Dogar made “threatening comments in matters of gender” towards her.

She also asked that the case be sent to the competent authority – the Supreme Judicial Council – for other measures.

In a monitoring article on X, Mazari said: “I filed an addendum to my initial complaint filed yesterday with the Supreme Judicial Council against Chief Dogar following the alarming development which took place yesterday where the Honorable judge who was a competent authority for harassment was arbitrary and with Mala fide intention modified a few hours after having filed my complaint.”

It referred to a decision by the IHC in which the court replaced the head of its harassment committee on Monday by the approval of judge Dogar.

According to sources, judge Inaam Ameen Minhas was appointed new head of the women’s harassment committee, while judge Saman Rafat was withdrawn from the post

A notification had been published with the approval of the chief judge. Sources have indicated that the details on the decision to withdraw Judge Rafat from the role will be published separately.
