Islamabad:
A local court in Islamabad ordered the reintegration of Dr. Ziaul Qayyum as Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). However, despite the court orders, the HEC administration did not allow him to enter the premises.
Dr. Ziaul Qayyum arrived at the HEC headquarters to regain the charge in the light of the court’s decision, but could not officially assume his functions. According to sources, security staff had been deployed to all the entries of the HEC secretariat. When Dr. Qayyum tried to enter the premises, his vehicle was excluded from the entrance.
All the entry and exit doors of the HEC building would have been locked, and security officials informed Dr qayyum that they had received from the main authorities not to authorize vehicles or individuals to enter.
Sources have confirmed that a local Islamabad court suspended the previous orders withdrawing Dr. Qayyum from its functions during a hearing on Saturday. The judicial order was made the next day, on the basis of which Dr. Qayyum went to HEC for reinstatement. However, he was refused access to the building.
Addressing the Express PK Press Club at the door, Dr qayyum alleged that he had been mistreated and harassed by the door staff, who refused him of the entry despite the orders of the court. “No one has the power to challenge a court order,” he said.
Sources have also revealed that the executive director’s office had been locked and that any vehicle entrance to the HEC premises had been suspended since morning. Later in the afternoon, Dr. Qayyum returned to the HEC with a certified copy of the court’s decision, but has still not been able to officially take his post.
