The High Court of Lahore (LHC) directed the Punjab Inspector General on Wednesday, Dr. Usman Anwar on Wednesday, to explain why, in the “meetings” of the Department of Terrorism (CTD), only the accused are struck by bullets while the police vans and their detainees remain unharmed.
The CTD faced repeated accusations of “false meetings”, in which the suspects die in suspicious circumstances.
Chief judge Aalia Neelum published the quote by hearing the petition of Farhat Bibi alleging that his son, Ghazanfar Aslam, was killed during a “false police meeting” on April 22. The petitioner asked for protection from her other son, Ansar Aslam, detained in Sheikhupura prison. His lawyer told court that Ghazanfar and Ansar had been arrested by Sharaqpur police.
According to the CTD report, the police went up the van of the suspects because of a perforated tire. The report says that, while the team was approaching to investigate, the occupants of the van attacked the officers, who then opened fire, hitting only the suspects.
Judge Neelum challenged this story, observing that “how do the bullets only find prisoners, leaving the officers and their vehicles intact?” She noted that the court receives more than 40 petitions daily alleging guard murders.
The CTD faced repeated accusations of “false meetings”, in which the suspects die in suspicious circumstances. The petitioners claim a dial of child care and seek judicial supervision to protect the rights of prisoners.
Although she expressed his indefinite satisfaction with the written report, the chief judge ordered the IGP ANWAR to carry out a complete examination of recent CTD operations and to propose measures to prevent future abuses.
