- Two 2014 sticks and a 2016 model are no longer supported
- More recent models are not currently at reduced prices
- 4K max would be our replacement choice
A few weeks ago, we reported that Netflix would stop supporting certain former fire television devices from June 2025 – and this entered into force today, June 3.
Netflix did not explain why it ends the management of devices, but the usual explanations are that they are too old to manage the latest security updates, as well as more modern audio and video streaming services such as Netflix prefer: affected TV Fire devices are 2014 and 2016, which is an eternity during technological years.
These private fire television sticks have not been updated for years, so this has always been a case of When They would become obsolete rather than if they would.
If you get another Amazon device to replace yours and you don’t mind doing Netflix without some time, I would recommend hanging on for a while: Amazon reduces its Fire TV devices all the time, but it doesn’t do it today. I will be very surprised if he does not reduce at least one model in time for the Father’s Day.
What Fire TV sticks have stopped supporting?
From June 3, 2025, the first generation versions of the following models will no longer be compatible with Netflix:
- Fire TV (2014)
- Fire TV Stick (2014)
- Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote (2016)
And to be fair, Netflix took care of these devices for a very long time.
If you are looking for a new Fire TV stick, the model I would recommend is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. The Non Max version has an official price of $ 49.99 / £ 59.99 $ 79 at the maximum is $ 59.99 / £ 69.99 $ 119 in, and for not much more money, the maximum gives you more storage, a faster processor and better Wi-Fi connectivity too.
The maximum has been updated several times this year so far, bringing the American price to $ 39.99 and by doing less than £ 50 in the United Kingdom. So, if you don’t mind taking a break while watching your Netflix for a while, it is probably worth waiting for the next Amazon Fire TV Stick to appear.
