- Comet by GL.inet is an open source remote KVM hardware element
- Remote Access over Ethernet lets you access a terminal remotely
- Unlike software solutions, this one is BIOS compatible and can be used for operating system installations.
GL.iNet has unveiled the Comet (GL-RM1), an open source remote KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) device running a Linux distribution based on the open source Buildroot project.
Designed for users who need remote access to PCs and servers, the Comet connects via HDMI and USB for KVM functionality, while its Ethernet port integrates with your network for remote access.
GL.iNet’s Comet product page currently only offers a mailing list subscription, but it’s worth noting that the company describes it as, without the power outages, a safe alternative to remote desktop software.
Remote control to a new level
With Comet’s BIOS/UEFI level compatibility, users can perform tasks such as operating system installation and troubleshooting without the target system being operational.
It is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and a TOPS 2.0 Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that supports lightweight AI applications.
One of the Comet’s key features is its built-in always-on free VPN service, providing secure remote access. GL.iNet also equips the Comet with several remote start options, including Wake-on-LAN (WOL), a mechanical button, and an ATX control board.
