- IMSCAD provides direct access to powerful Lenovo workstations for demanding design tasks
- Desktops are hosted in Equinix data centers with 1:1 user connections
- Monthly contracts range from 1 month to 36 months for flexible usage
IMSCAD and Lenovo workstations now offer remote configuration for users who need to run heavy design and 3D software without paying the high prices of public cloud services.
The service offers each user a 1:1 link to a workstation such as the ThinkStation P3 Ultra with an Intel Gen 9 processor up to 6.0 GHz and an Nvidia chip with up to 24 GB of VRAM.
The vendor delivers this hardware via cloud hosting, promising lower costs while maintaining consistent performance.
Cheaper Path for Graphics Workloads
IMSCAD says its service is backed by Lenovo hardware and its systems are 50% cheaper than high-end public cloud platforms.
“For too long, public cloud prices have been way too high when you want to run graphics applications and desktops,” said CEO Adam Jull.
“Imagine having a super-powerful workstation that you never see or touch, but can access from anywhere in the world: that’s the reality we’re delivering to architects, engineers and designers today. »
The configuration removes shared virtual machines and gives users direct access to dedicated desktops.
This approach allows users to pay less while running faster hardware, using cloud storage and hosting platforms.
TKDA, a Minnesota engineering, architecture and planning firm, tested four different services while replacing the setup it had adopted during COVID.
TKDA runs AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp and point cloud software, and these programs demand powerful graphics output.
The test showed that the remote desktop handled these tasks without slowdown or instability.
“IMSCAD performed well above all other solutions in our testing,” said Nicholas J. Steele, principal systems analyst at TKDA.
“The performance of the Lenovo P3 Ultra that we had access to was a surprise to all testers. None of us thought we would ever be able to achieve better remote performance than our local machines.”
This service operates as a “Workstation as a Service” and uses rentable workstations on a monthly fee with contracts ranging from one month to 36 months.
The model is clear and straightforward: users rent a desktop, pay a fixed monthly rate, and avoid the higher fees generated by public cloud instances.
Workstations are located in Equinix data centers and users connect directly to them. IMSCAD claims it is a simpler and cheaper way to run large-scale graphics workloads.
