The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an flooding alert of the GLACAIRE lake bulb (GLOF) for northern Pakistan, warning of an increased risk of flooding in the glacial regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa due to the increase in temperatures and an approaching meteorological system.
According to the division of research and development of the PMD, high persistent temperatures accelerate snow and the melting of glaciers, increasing the probability of Glol and flash flood incidents in vulnerable valleys and surrounding areas during the current and future week.
