The popular commercial platform Robinhood (Hood) plans to extend its prediction market product, which allows merchants to buy and sell contracts according to future results, beyond the United States and in the world markets, the company told Bloomberg.
Robinhood sees international demand increase, especially in Europe and the United Kingdom. JB Mackenzie, Vice-President and Managing Director of Futures and International at the Company, said that users abroad had shown particular interest in this new form of negotiation.
“We are certainly looking to offer it worldwide, and my goal or my goal is to make sure that it is a product in accordance with the regulations wherever we go,” Mackenzie told Bloomberg.
To this end, Robinhood began discussions with foreign regulators, including the Financial Conduct Authority in the United Kingdom, to explore how a localized version of the product could be structured, he said.
This decision follows its recent partnership with Kalshi based on blockchain and Kalshi regulated by CFTC, which allows users to bet on the results of real events such as elections, economic versions or geopolitical developments.
Prediction market
The push in the prediction markets occurs in the middle of an increase in interest in trading based on events, partly triggered by the rise of the crypto-law Polymarket platform. This platform treated billions of dollars in Paris in 2024, largely linked to the outcome of the American presidential election.
The platform has become so popular that Polymarket has recently estimated a potential agreement that estimated the company at $ 9 billion, a clear increase in its valuation of $ 1 billion just a few months ago.
While polymarket has reached glory, the market was somewhat limited. Now, with the American and potentially global offers in Robinhood, this could open the prediction market to a larger group of traders.
