Humanoid robots are the new hot thing and are no longer the competence of science fiction, but rather an increasing reality of life. Even if most are still in the laboratory or a handful of factories, their skills are more human per minute. These robots work, run, help, converse thanks to AI, drag, dance and sometimes undergo unhappy abuse levels.
One of the most remarkable humanoid robots is a G1, an “humanoid agent Ai Avatar” the size of a pint with dozens of joints and motors. I saw the G1 in person in CES, and it is an impressive feat of engineering. Despite its mobility and dexterity, G1’s capacities are largely a product of remote control and pre -programmed movements.
Despite this, the $ 16,000 (to start) Uniree G1 can maintain balance and precision in the face of unforeseen obstacles. Unitree recently demonstrated this competence in a new video which not only shows remarkable dance skills of Unidree G1, but also its perseverance in the face of adversity – AHEM -. Unitree notes that the skills demonstrated in the video are new and have not yet been deployed to all customers.
To watch
Watching the short video, it is difficult not to feel for the G1 while a developer pushes, pushes and knocks the robot with a stick. In a remarkable moment, the robot throws his hands and seems to block a blow. Naturally, I silently applauded the robot efforts. But I think I may celebrate the bad thing.
It is not a video on a poor and defensey robot trying to protect yourself. UNITEE G1, even with its integrated AI, has no feeling. He literally cannot feel the blows. It is not upset that someone strikes him. Instead, the robot program is to dance and stand up.
What is impressive here is that nothing, not even these blows, stops only UNiree G1; He continues to make bops.
The resilient robots are a crucial part of the chronology of the development of humanoid robotics. These robots will be not very useful to us if, when we accidentally hit them, they fall and are then stuck on the back, shaking their arms and legs like Kafka beetles.
As many times I grimace when I see someone “abuse” a robot, I have to remember that it is the path. There can be no robot revolution without such a “sacrifice”.
A dance robot is fun. A robot that can remain straight in the face of an attack changes the situation.
