Rory McILroy could have serious driver problems before US Open next week.

The control of the master’s degree in 2025 missed the Cup of 12 shots at the Open of RBC Canadian Open, pulling an 8 against 78 Friday, which was his second highest score in any PGA Tour event for his career.

The last time McILroy pulled a 78 was in the first round of the open in 2024.

McILroy said that his “is concerned” round, and what a professional golfer would not be worried after hiding a quadruple Bogey as well as a double bogey and four Bogeys to go with only two Birdies.

“You don’t want to draw high scores like the one I have done today,” said McILroy, by ESPN. “However, I felt like I had come here of course with a new driver thinking that this kind was going to be good and solving some of the TEE problems, but that is not the case.”

Rory McILroy defends himself the right to skip the media sessions after the flight of news from the driver who is not in accordance with the PGA championship

The driver of McILroy was a point of highlighting since the PGA championship last month, where he was disclosed that he had a non-compliant driver who was unusable after the pre-tournoi tests.

Scottie Scheffler, the winner of the Quail Hollow Club that week, also had a non-compliant driver, but her name was not publicly known. However, McILroy was checked by his name, and he jumped from media sessions the whole tournament. He then finished T-47TH.

Before managing this week in Toronto, McILroy admitted to be turned upside down by the fact that his driver had been made public.

“I was a little p —- D because I knew that the driver of Scottie had failed on Monday, but my name was the one who had been disclosed,” said McILroy at a press conference, via the New York Post. “He was supposed to remain confidential. Two media members were those who disclosed him.

“I didn’t want to go up there and say something that I regret either, because I try to protect Scottie. I don’t want to mention his name. I try to protect Taylormade, I try to protect the USGA, PGA from America, myself.”

Thus, McILroy’s starting blows were going to be under a microscope this week because he worked with a new driver, and it was not as consistent as usual.

McILroy is one of the best drivers on the tour, currently ranking first at AVC won on the TEE, while being third at a distance from a medium shot of 319.3 yards.

But with the Oakmont Country Club Rash having the capacity to swallow golf balls and ruin tours next week at the US Open, McILroy’s precision must be much better than it was. It ranks 170th by driving precision, hitting the Fairway 51.13% of the time.

At least being cut off from this week’s tournament gives McILroy a few more days to understand his driver before putting him in the US Open on Thursday.
