Rose Byrne tops awards with Indie Spirit win

Rose Byrne received another accolade for her performance in If I had legs I’d kick youdirected by Mary Bronstein.

This latest win for the Australian actress is the second major honor she has earned during the current awards season, as she also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical earlier this year.

Even if the race for the main actress is one to watch this year, with Jessie Buckley for Hamnet Being another strong contender, Byrne also won several critics’ awards for his performance. She won, among other awards, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Lead Performance and the Silver Bear for Best Lead Performance at last year’s Berlin Film Festival.

While celebrating its latest victory, the Bridesmaids The star praised independent cinema and its Australian origins in the winning speech.

“This character of Linda could really only exist in an independent film. She’s fierce and graceful and she’s a middle-aged woman,” she said. “I’m from Australia and there’s really only independent cinema there, so I feel very comfortable here.”

In the gender neutral category, Byrne was nominated alongside Everett Blunck (The plague), Kathleen Chalfant (Familiar touch), Chang Chen (Read lucky), Joel Edgerton (Form dreams), Dylan O’Brien (Without twin), Keke Palmer (One of these days), Théodore Pellerin (Lurker), Tessa Thompson (Hedda), and Ben Whishaw (Peter Hujar’s day).

Mikey Madison, winner of last year’s Best Leading Performance, notably won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Anora.

Rose Byrne is also nominated for the next Oscars, which will take place on March 15.
