Karachi:
The auditor general of Pakistan has revealed losses of more than 22 billion rupees in the engineering operations of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), according to the audit report for 2024-2025.
The report reported two main cases of financial loss. In one case, losses exceeding 14 billion rupees were suffered due to land planes, including six Boeing 777 belonging to PIA and two ATR-72 planes taken in lease.
The listeners noted that the losses arose from non-compliance with maintenance deadlines and delays in the elimination of defective engines. The Boeing plane remained landed for various periods between March 11, 2020 and March 1, 2021.

The audit paragraph has highlighted an additional RS6 billion loss caused by 25 other land air engines permanently. The losses occurred because the engines were neither reused nor eliminated over time.
The report also revealed that around 3 billion rupees had been paid to civil aviation Authority (CAA) in connection with these founded planes, while separate financial damage has been incurred in parking costs.
These problems have persisted since the special audit of the PIA covering 2008-2017.
Sources have indicated that although a meeting of the Ministerial Accounts Committee (DAC) was scheduled for January 2025 to examine the issue, it has never been summoned.
