The Punjab assembly responded on Monday 38 subsidy requests that enhance more than 509 billion additional budget rupees for 2024-25 in the absence of the opposition.

The opposition protested the dismissal of its four members as presidents of the permanent committees.

The Minister of Finance, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, said that this year’s additional budget was around 510 billion rupees, adding that the government had allocated 266.6 billion rupees for development.

He said the government preferred development projects to serve the people rather than wages.

He said the government had spent 126 billion rupees on the road network. Requests for grant in the additional budget include more than 46 billion rupees for the police service, 3 billion rupees for irrigation, 16 billion rupees for health services, 13 billion rupees for public health and 4 billion rupees for agriculture.

The five opposition cup movements were rejected in the absence of its members.
