- Sam Altman of Openai called the Deepsek’s viral model “impressive” Deepsek
- In response, he says: “We will obviously provide much better models”
- President Trump calls Deepseek an “alarm clock” for American technology giants
The Viral Deepseek application of China has a missile type name, and has castigated a hole in stock prices and chatgpt plans and other AI giants. But the CEO of Openai, Sam Altman, is – at least publicly – not disturbed by the new unexpected rival.
Commenting X (formerly Twitter), Altman said that DEEPSEEK R1 is an “impressive” model, and it is difficult not to hear this in Patrick Bateman’s voice during the American psycho Business card scene.
But Altman was also optimistic about reacting it from Openai. He added that “we will obviously provide much better models” and that it is “legitimate invigorating to have a new competitor”.
Deepseek R1 is an impressive model, especially around what they are able to deliver for the price. We obviously offer much better models and it is also legitimate invigorating to have a new competitor! We are going to draw some versions.January 28, 2025
The reason for which Deepseek caused such agitation is because it is both open-source and has been built on Nvidia chips that are less advanced, which means that its development costs were relatively tiny compared to the main models like Chatgpt 4o.
However, Altman does not think that it changed the AI game. He doubled on the vision of Openai, adding that the company believes that “more calculation is more important than ever before to succeed in our mission” and that “the world will want to use a lot of AI, and is really very surprised by new generation models “.
The recently inaugurated American president, Donald Trump, does not quite agree, calling the rise of Deepseek an “alarm clock” for American technology giants. Speaking to journalists on Air Force One, he added: “If you could do it cheaper, if you could do it [for] less [and] Access the same final result. I think it’s a good thing for us. “”
Presumably, Trump only considers Deepseek as a “good thing” as long as we, the giants of AI, quickly learn from his lessons, but it is far from being guaranteed …
What happens next?
The short -term impact of Deepseek on the AI is undeniable – the giant of chips Nvidia has undergone the largest diving of a day in the history of the United States, after the doubt was thrown on The need for its massive calculation power in what could now be an age of radically more effective models.
But what is happening then is less clear. Almost immediately after Deepseek struck the top of the App Store and Google Play Store in the United States, the application was struck by a massive cyber attack which has temporarily seen it close to new inscriptions.
More importantly, questions have now started to be raised on Deepseek’s privacy and security policies. His confidentiality policy explicitly declares that “we store the information we collect in secure servers located in the People’s Republic of China”.
It should not be a huge surprise, but it raises questions about the question of whether the United States and other countries could embark on a Tiktok style repression against Chinese AI models like Deepseek – or Less dissuading consumers and companies from using them in the meantime while waiting for the interval.
