- S Pen support could return for future Samsung foldables
- However, it is unlikely to be added to the main Galaxy Z Fold 8.
- This move is apparently aimed at countering the iPhone Fold
Read our Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 review and you’ll see that the book-style foldable doesn’t support S Pen input like its predecessors did – a change Samsung may be about to reverse as the iPhone Fold looms.
According to popular tipster Lanzuk (via Android Authority), Samsung is currently testing S Pen support on “Galaxy Z Fold 8 variants”, aiming to give more competition to devices from “Company A” (which is apparently Apple).
However, it doesn’t appear that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 itself will get S Pen support. One of the main reasons the Galaxy Z Fold 7 doesn’t let you use an S Pen with it is that it means the screen (and the foldable as a whole) can be thinner. Samsung will also want to keep this slim profile on the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Instead, we could see S Pen compatibility appear for another Galaxy Z Fold device: Samsung would developing a wider foldable with a 4:3 aspect ratio when opened, to match the supposed dimensions of the foldable iPhone.
Wide is the new thin

Veteran tipster @UniverseIce has weighed in by publishing the expected screen sizes for the wide Samsung foldable and the iPhone Fold: 5.4 inches and 7.6 inches for the former, and 5.35 inches and 7.58 inches for the latter apparently.
Long story short, Samsung appears to be developing a book-style foldable that isn’t the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in order to directly compete with the 4:3 aspect ratio of Apple’s foldable iPhone – possibly with S Pen support as well as a sweetener.
It’s also worth noting that the latest dimensions of the iPhone Fold don’t exactly match the dimensions disclosed last week and used to make a prototype 3D-printed device. One of these sources must be wrong, or maybe Apple changed its mind on the width and height of the foldable iPhone.
Given that they’ll be talking to the same industry partners and suppliers, it’s not really surprising that Apple and Samsung know each other’s plans, and that could be reflected in two foldables in particular in 2026.
