Islamabad:
Sana Arif, who launched the presence of Pakistan in the international triathlon, made everyone proud with her prowess in athletics.
Many describe his journey as a triathlete as a remarkable story of force, courage and pride.
Born in Kuwait and raised in Lahore, Pakistan, Sana returned to Kuwait in 2007, carrying her passion for sport.
Since childhood, sports have played an essential role in his life. However, becoming a triathlete has never been your initial objective.
His inspiration struck after hearing the story of an American athlete. He honored his last friends by finishing an Ironman race. This touching story left a lasting impression on Sana.
However, even then, swimming posed an important barrier. She had never swam in free water, much less a swimming pool. Fear kept her.
In 2021, Sana took the plunge to learn to swim. His sisters joined him, adding motivation and pleasure to this new experience. Friends also played an essential role, encouraging its step by step, according to Sana.
With their support, Sana overcome her fear of deep waters. Remarkably, in two years, she finished her first Ironman 70.3 event in Türkiye. Ironman 70.3 is a difficult endurance race. The athletes swim 1.9 kilometers, the 90 -kilometer cycle and end by traveling 21.1 kilometers.
He demands physical strength, mental tenacity and disciplined routine. Sana’s preparation involved intense training every day. She has often woken up at 4 am to train before the extreme summer heat of Kuwait settled.
Temperatures have frequently crossed 50 degrees Celsius, which makes outdoor training particularly difficult. Sana attributes the unwavering support of her family to her achievements. His parents and siblings provided an emotional force, even in the midst of their concerns about his security.
This family link was crucial during difficult times. Representing Pakistan during international events brings immense pride of Sana.
It also brings unique challenges. Without much national support for triathlon, she often feels alone during competitions.
Despite this isolation, this fuels its motivation. She considers herself as proof that Pakistan can excel in endurance sports. The financial challenges of the triathlon are important.
Equipment, travel and training costs are quickly added. Sana hopes that the Pakistani government and local sponsors will be able to provide more support.
This support would open doors to talented athletes who are unable to afford this expensive sport. A biggest investment could transform the presence of Pakistan in world triathlon competitions.
Discipline, says Sana, is the most vital aspect to become a successful triathlete. She emphasizes that triathlon is not only physical. It also requires mental strength.
Balancing intense training with family and professional responsibilities is difficult. However, Sana finds an immense fulfillment to overcome these daily challenges.
For women and young athletes interested in triathlon, Sana has simple but powerful advice: starting small but staying coherent. She stresses that having support is crucial.
