The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has categorically rejected reports claiming that currency tickets with pen brands or writing will no longer be accepted as legal obligations from July 1, 2025.

SBP chief spokesperson Noor Ahmed told Express PK Press Club Thursday that the reports of any notification published in this regard were baseless.

Clarification followed publications and reports widely disseminated on social networks with a false notification which claimed that any motto note on pen brands or writing would no longer be considered a legal after July 1, 2025.

Earlier in September 2014, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) advised the public to refrain from writing political slogans on currency tickets, warning that banks would not accept such degraded tickets.

The announcement had come in response to the call of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Chef Tahirul Qadri, citizens to circulate the currency bearing the slogan “Go Nawaz Go”.

The SBP had declared that the disaminting the currency is illegal and said that anyone who suffers a financial loss due to marked tickets will be solely responsible.

The SBP also issued banks directives for having closely followed the political slogans on currency tickets and asked them not to accept it if such a declaration was found.

Noor Ahmed, however, reiterated that exchange tickets are a national asset and should be protected.
