Karachi:
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal against the installation of mobile towers around Karachi airport, claiming that aviation and other authorities concerned said that these towers had been built in accordance with international aviation standards.
A bench of three members, including judge Muhammad Ali Mazhar, judge Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi and judge Aqeel Abbasi heard the appeal. According to the observations of the responsible parties, the bench said that there was no danger for the planes that take off from the airport.
The petitioner Muhammad Aslam Khan Advocate had argued that some time ago, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crashed into a residential area, in which around 100 people died. The court said in remarks that the PK-8303 flight accident was not due to the population.
During the hearing, judge Mazhar pointed out that the house which was affected by the plane was not so high. He said that planes are flying daily and that the aviation authorities had no problem, so why someone else had the problem with this.
The Abbasi judge noted that the whole population around the airport could not be evacuated. Judge Rizvi said in his remarks that if an accident occurred in the future, the responsibility would reside with the authorities who currently said that the towers posed no problem for the planes.
