Islamabad:

A constitutional bench of 13 members (CB) of the Supreme Court admitted for having heard the revision requests against the Supreme Court’s decision to grant seats reserved for assemblies in Pakistan Tehreek-E-insaf (PTI), which would be taken up by a CB of 11 members on Wednesday (today).

During a hearing on Tuesday, the two members of the bench, judge Ayesha Malik and judge Aqeel Abbasi, rejected the revision as inadmissible. Later, a new list of causes was published, which said that the two judges would not be part of the bench for hearing other petitions.

Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that the PTI would obtain the seats reserved for the National Assembly and the provincial assemblies according to its strength in these houses. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistani peoples’ party (PPP) and the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) asked for an examination of the decision.

Petitions were heard by the 13 -members bench, led by Judge Amicin Khan. During the hearing, the judges raised questions concerning the unaccompanied the initial decision of the Supreme Court, issued on July 12, 2024.

Justice Malik and Abbasi judge gave a dissident opinion and rejected petitions as inadmissible at the first hearing. Judge Malik said she rejected the three examination as inadmissible and issued detailed reasons later. The Abbasi judge pointed out that he agreed with judge Malik.

Later, a new list of cause was published on the Supreme Court website, according to which, a CB of 11 members, led by Judge Aminuddin Khan, would hear the petitions. Judge Malik and Abbasi judge were not included in the bench.

However, the request of Kanwal Shauzab to initiate an outrage in the legal proceedings against the CPE for the unlike the court decision was not provided for the hearing in the new list of causes. In the list of previous causes, this petition was included on Wednesday.
